Biography of our Principal – Brian Hyland

Brian Hyland of Alpine Financial Consultancy Limited is a corporate finance and forensic accountant. He was formerly the lead corporate finance and litigation support partner in the firm RSM Ireland, a leading full service accounting firm and an independent member of the RSM International network.

He has extensive experience gained over the past 25 years, 17 as a partner in forensic accounting, litigation support and corporate finance acting for clients and stakeholders in both the private and public sector.

With this experience in the field of financial and commercial due diligence, and in-company valuations, Brian has acted as Engagement Partner and Project Manager in the completion of large Independent Business Reviews on behalf of NAMA.

He carries out the role of lead advisor, negotiating on behalf of clients in the areas of mergers and acquisitions. He also advises clients on identifying suitable sources of finance whether for development capital, management buy-outs (MBO) or management buy-ins (MBI).

Brian has worked with many of the leading law firms to investigate, compile and de-construct financial loss claims and provide expert evidence in Court.  Brian has acted as Expert Witness in numerous cases for both the Plaintiff and Defendant.

Relevant experience

• Engaged by the plaintiff in a family law case following concerns about the value declared by the respondent of shares held in a global business. The case involved the valuation of a business with 50+ offices around the world and providing expert evidence in relation to same to the court. The outcome for our client was a substantial cash settlement together with a number of property assets.
• Currently engaged by an International Plc in a contract dispute with a supplier.
• Acted as expert witness engaged by the plaintiff in a partnership dispute concerning a hotel asset. The matter settled with a substantial cash settlement paid to our client.
• Provided expert witness services to a semi-state body in defending a large contract dispute. We were engaged in this case for nearly three years and it was recently settled to our client’s satisfaction.
• Currently providing expert witness services to the P.I. insurers of an accounting practice in a case involving a B.E.S. tax incentive scheme. Our client is defending an action brought by the promoter of the scheme.

Brian is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. Has served on the Auditing Standards Committee of Chartered Accountants Ireland and has also acted as the Chair of the Audit Committee of the State Laboratory.
